Garam Masala is one of the most essential and loved spice blends in Indian cooking. Known for its bold aroma and deep flavor. It brings warmth and richness to a wide range of dishes. Whether you're new to Indian food or a long-time fan, this spice mix is a must-have in your kitchen.

Garam Masala is the soul of Indian cooking. This deeply aromatic spice blend is used in homes across India—each kitchen with its own treasured version. Our version at The Indian Pantry is crafted with care, slow-roasted in small batches to unlock rich, bold aromas that bring your dishes to life. Add it to gravies, stir-fries, lentils, or marinades. Sprinkle it over your fries, roasted vegetables, or even a warm soup. It’s the finishing touch that makes everything taste special.

What Does It Taste Like?

Despite its name, garam (which means “heat” in Hindi) doesn’t mean it’s spicy. It refers to the warmth the spices bring to the body. You’ll taste deep, earthy cumin, sweet and citrusy coriander, the subtle liquorice of fennel, and the peppery kick of black pepper. Cloves and cinnamon add warmth and sweetness, while nutmeg, star anise, and mace create a rich, exotic finish. A hint of Kashmiri red chilli brings beautiful colour, not overpowering heat.

What’s Inside?

  • Black Pepper – Adds boldness and subtle heat

  • Coriander – Light and citrusy, forms the base

  • Cumin – Deep, earthy, and warming

  • Fennel – Mild sweetness and cooling touch

  • Cardamom – Sweet and floral, adds brightness

  • Nutmeg – Rich, warm, and slightly nutty

  • Star Anise – Fragrant and slightly sweet

  • Cloves – Strong and warm with depth

  • Bay Leaf – Woody and herbal for balance

  • Red Chilis – For gentle warmth and bite

  • Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder – Adds vibrant colour

  • Mace – Delicate, floral, and lightly peppery

  • Cinnamon – Sweet, woody, and comforting

Why Cooks Love It

Garam Masala is the one blend every Indian kitchen can’t do without. With this, you can make any dish more aromatic, comforting, and authentically Indian. Whether you’re cooking a rich butter chicken, a simple dal, or tossing some veggies in a pan, a sprinkle of this masala makes all the difference. It’s not just a spice blend—it’s a warm memory of home, of bustling kitchens, and food made with love.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use your garam masala?
Using our garam masala is very easy. Simply add the masala while cooking your onions, vegetables, protein, or base ingredients, and let the spices toast gently in the heat. This releases their full aroma and gives your dish a deep, authentic flavour. The blend is already balanced, so you don’t need to add anything extra unless you want to.
How much garam masala should I use per dish?
Most recipes need only one to two teaspoons of our garam masala to create a rich, flavourful dish. Start with a smaller amount and increase it based on how strong you want the flavour to be. Each pack contains enough blend for several meals, making it a convenient and economical pantry staple.
Is your garam masala gluten-free and free from artificial preservatives?
Yes, our garam masala is naturally gluten-free and made with clean, real spices. We do not use artificial colours, preservatives, fillers, or flavour enhancers. It is crafted to deliver pure, authentic taste using only traditional ingredients.
How spicy is your garam masala?
Our garam masala is not meant to be very spicy. It is warm, aromatic, and full of depth rather than heat. It adds richness and fragrance without overpowering your dish. For a milder flavour, use less. If you prefer more intensity, add a little extra or pair it with chilli flakes. The blend is flexible and easy to adjust to your taste.
How should I store this spice blend?
Store the garam masala in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Ensure the pouch is tightly sealed after each use. While the spices remain safe for a long time, we recommend using them within a few months for the best flavour and fragrance.

I used to purchase different Indian spice blend mixes, and that company went out of business. After seeing a review in Vancouver magazine about these I wanted to try them out. I placed an order, and literally the next DAY I had them delivered to my door by the owner. It was so awesome. I just made the chai today and it was delicious. I can't wait to try the rest! Thanks!

I'm absolutely obsessed with The Indian Pantry Foods Inc's Goan Vindaloo sauce! It's become a staple in my kitchen, and I can't get enough of it. The flavors are rich, spicy, and utterly delicious - it's like a party in my mouth! The sauce is perfectly balanced, not too thick or too thin, and packs just the right amount of heat. I've used it to make everything from chicken vindaloo to veggie stir-fries, and they've never disappointed. I've tried other sauces from them, but the Goan Vindaloo is my absolute fave. Would highly recommend giving it a try - your taste buds will thank you! 5 stars, hands down!

I've been hooked on The Indian Pantry for over 6 months now—their Goan Vindaloo sauce is pure fire (in the best way) and the chai concentrate is my secret weapon for when surprise guests show up. As an Indian home cook, these two have turned "I have 20 minutes" into "dinner is ready and tastes like I slaved for hours." I first grabbed them at a pop-up at UBC, and the quality still blows me away. Quick, authentic, and no compromise—absolute must-try if you want delicious Indian food without the drama. Highly recommended!

My first encounter with Indian Pantry’s Goan Vindaloo masala was during a camping trip this summer, and it left a lasting impression. After that, I also tried their garam masala, and I’ve been a hooked to it ever since. The vindaloo masala isn’t just great with potatoes—I’ve used it with a variety of vegetables, and it always delivers a wonderful flavour. Their spices are fresh and well-balanced. I have heard great reviews about their chai masala and Bengali masala too, although I haven’t tried due to personal dietary preferences. I would truly recommend the Indian Pantry masala for anyone who want to try and enhance their cooking with genuine Indian flavours.

I recently tried several products from The Indian Pantry Foods Inc in Vancouver, and I’m so impressed! The Goan Vindaloo and Makhani sauces made cooking effortless and tasted authentic. Their spice blends—especially Garam Masala and Malvani Masala—are incredibly aromatic, and the Cutting Chai Masala is perfect for tea lovers. Everything feels fresh, high-quality, and thoughtfully made. I even gifted their products to colleagues for the holidays, and everyone was blown away by the flavors! Definitely my go-to for real Indian taste. 5 stars!

The Indian Pantry products are amazing. I am a big fan of the brand and have been using them on daily basis from last couple of months. Their Vindaloo sauce is so good, it’s solid, flavourful and has an amazing texture when cooked with Paneer and Tofu. Their other sauces and spices are also great. They are easy to make and tasty. It can be your best Holiday Gift option for your Friend an and Family. Their packaging is beautiful with a small recipe book inside which makes it even more special. I also personally feel that they are fairly priced. Overall it’s a very good product and pocket friendly, I would highly recommend it to anyone willing to explore something new this Holiday season.

If you’re on the hunt for something bold but comforting, their Goan Vindaloo –inspired pasta is a revelation. This inventive mash‑up starts with The Indian Pantry’s Goan Vindaloo Simmering Sauce—a tangy, spicy masterpiece that delivers tomato, vinegar, garlic, ginger, and warming spices in every spoonful. What hits first is a sharp, sour tang tempered with slow‑building heat—vibrant, layered, and utterly addictive

I used this Goan Vindaloo Masala to make prawn curry, and it turned out really good. The masala has a fresh aroma and a well balanced spice level. It gives the curry a very authentic Goan taste without being overpowering. Its easy to use and makes homemade curry taste restaurant style. What I really liked is how easy it is to use just throw in onions and tomatoes, saute them, add the masala, and you are almost done. Overall, the flavors are rich and slightly tangy, which goes perfectly with prawns.

We love spicy Indian food, and when it comes to making it quickly and effortlessly, one name always comes to mind: The Indian Pantry Foods. All of their sauces and masalas are excellent, but the Vindaloo Sauce/Masala is truly outstanding. We have purchased Vindaloo, Garam, Bengali, and several other masalas, including Chai Masala, from them many times, and every one has been consistently high in quality. The Vindaloo stands out, but the others are equally impressive and the packages even include simple recipes for quick dishes for convenience. We highly recommend The Indian Pantry Foods Inc.
